THE MOST VIOLENT CITIES IN THE WORLD

When you travel a lot for work or business, it can be important to be well informed about the cities you visit.

An association has compiled statistics on the most dangerous cities in terms of homicides. Brazil ranks first with 17 classified cities.

It is followed by Mexico with 12 cities, then Venezuela, the United States, Colombia and South Africa.

In terms of homicide rates, Los Cabos in Mexico is cited as the most dangerous city in the world (365 homicides for 328,245 inhabitants) ahead of Caracas in Venezuela (3,387 homicides) and Acapulco in Mexico also (910 homicides).

In terms of the number of absolute homicides, Caracas ranks first (3,387 homicides), ahead of Fortaleza in Brazil (3,270 homicides), Cape Town in South Africa (2,493) and Recife in Brazil (2,180).

In this list of the 50 most dangerous cities in the world, 25 are located in South America (Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela), 16 in Central America, 4 in the United States, 2 in the Caribbean and 3 in Africa (from the south) . In the end, South America remains a very safe area apart from certain cities in 3 countries (Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela).

Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia have no city among the top 50 most dangerous cities in the world.

In Brazil, crime is linked to poverty and the very unequal sharing of resources in the country.

In Colombia, security has greatly improved in recent years due to the peace process initiated with the FARCS: the country has also known an increased appeal to tourists in recent years and apart from the cities mentioned in the study, the country has become much safer overall.

In Venezuela, crime is exacerbated due to the explosion of poverty following the drop in oil prices (the country is a heavy oil producer), the American embargo and the political system.

Venezuela is also facing another crisis: the flight of its population. It is estimated that more than 4 million people have left the country, including 2 million in the past three years.
